Woman Entrepreneur and mom shares Business Wisdom and Healthly Tips

Shelly Kennedy, mother of two children and owner of Drooz Studio, bedazzles others with her smile, passion to create and sense of humor. In Shelly words, “the best word to describe me… blessed.”

Shelly shared sage advice for women entrepreneurs, “Remember that it can be anything YOU want it to be…so make sure it grows on a path that you are excited about. If you are not excited about it – alter it.”

How do you find time to nourish your own spirit?
Shelly: "I constantly hear take care of yourself first, so you can take care of the others even better, but that is so much easier said than done! In an attempt to not over- extend and over-commit, I’m learning to say “NO”. A very important achievement for me! Luckily it doesn’t take too much to nourish my spirit! Flipping thru a new magazine, coffee with a friend, playing fetch with the dogs…or just turning up the music!"

What advice do you have for women entrepreneurs, who are concerned given the economic climate, about the nature of their business?
Shelly: "Grow slow and steady. Build a good network. Do your research and become an expert in your field. Know your competition. Most of all … you MUST love what you are doing – because running your own business WILL consume you! Follow your instincts and use your intuitive thinking. Continually re-evaluate your business and change as needed."
How do you juggle being a Mom and entrepreneur and what insight can you share with women?
Shelly: “Don’t expect perfection. I want a clean, clutter free house, all the laundry clean, folded AND put away…sit down dinner each night and - yea, not happening! OK… so I’m really in the learning stages of this one too! I’m trying to delegate more (especially to the kids)."
I understand, that you will start on a travel adventure to the Amazon; given many business owners, struggle to manage it all, work demands, family, why is it important to carve out time for you?
Shelly: "When I’m working , and things are going with a good groove – I actually think of that as my time and there’s nothing I’d rather be doing with my alone time than “creating”. It is very important to carve out time for yourself – just to and re-evaluate and revive! As far as the Amazon trip…it is a family trip…my husband and I will take the kids too! Our family time is so limited that I can’t imagine going away without the kids."
